Terms of service

Last updated 27 September 2026. These terms govern your use of Keel. They're short on purpose: if you spot a trick hidden in here, it's a mistake, and we'd like to know about it.

Who we are

Keel is an uptime monitoring service operated independently by its founder. There is no company behind it, no registered address, and no board of directors — just one operator doing the work. If you rely on Keel for something business-critical, that's the fact to weigh first.

What the service does

Keel checks URLs you add on a schedule, opens an incident after two consecutive failures, and sends alerts to webhooks you configure. It records check history so you can look back at what happened. That's the whole of it.

Plans and limits

The Free plan includes 3 monitors, checks every 5 minutes, webhook alerts, and 30 days of check history. The Pro plan is £5 per month and raises the limits to 50 monitors with checks every 60 seconds.

Pro is not on sale yet. Payments go through a third-party provider that isn't live, so Pro cannot be purchased today. These terms describe the Pro plan as it's intended to work; until payment is available, every account runs on the Free plan and no fees are charged or owed.

Fair use and acceptable targets

Only add monitors for services you own or have permission to monitor. Keel sends requests to the URLs you configure, so pointing it at someone else's infrastructure without their agreement makes you — not Keel — responsible for the consequences.

Don't use Keel to load-test anything. It checks at fixed intervals and expects light, polite traffic. Using it to generate load, probe for weaknesses, or otherwise stress a target is abuse of the service, and we'll remove monitors or accounts that do it.

Availability — honestly, there's no SLA

We aim for steady service, but Keel is provided as-is, with no uptime commitment and no service level agreement. It runs on infrastructure that can and occasionally will have problems of its own. An uptime monitor that goes down is an embarrassment, not a breach of contract, and we'd rather say so plainly than promise otherwise.

Limitation of liability

Keel is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for missed alerts, late alerts, false alerts, lost data, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service — even if warned of the possibility. Alerts are best-effort notifications, not guarantees. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before the claim, which for the Free plan means zero.

Accounts and termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account if these terms are breached, if an account is used to abuse the service or third parties, or if keeping it running becomes impractical. If Keel shuts down entirely, we'll give what notice we reasonably can; no data outlives that event.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Continued use after a change means you accept it; if you don't, closing your account ends the relationship.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
